On 15th August, 2021 , Ola had unveiled its “ Ola Electric scooters” with the aim of taking a step towards green environment. There have been many other companies to have the electric two wheelers such as Bajaj and hero and Ola stepped into it as well. If we see the current fuel prices crossing the mark of 100rs it seems like a viable option to shift on to electricity driven vehicle . But have we considered other factors too? Like the pricing of vehicle, charging stations, infrastructure and most important willingness of the people to shift from the petrol driven scooters to electric. Electricity in India is based on coal and that derives us to get help and make better changes , because electricity is not a limited resource which is a plus point as it would help the environment , have less expenses to drive any vehicle if we start producing it in India itself. We all have seen that in past few years we have had at least one flooding situation in India in monsoon and this impacts most of the things. Like this year in middle of July, we had excess rains at night and mostly everyone who has vehicles had faced the issue where there was water in their cars, their two wheelers stopped working , the companies have given 2 to 3 months of waiting period for servicing and that shows that how costly and difficult it would be for the electric vehicle owners. If not only about floods, there are many societies which does not provide with a good parking space and for an electric vehicle it is important that there is a proper parking space for the charging stations to be installed. Due to the Covid – 19 situation , most of them have started to go for second hand or new two wheelers depending on the budget and the pricing of Ola scooters have a major drawback, it ranges between 1,00,000 to 1,50,000 and it is not a great option for most of the people , no doubt that Ola provides us with many great features in just a two wheeler as such Bluetooth , charging cable, 43% less cost than petrol , smart unlock key , voice control and navigation etc. . India has the lager area and majority covered by middle income group people and youngsters so even though the electricity has very less expense to run and such great features , people will think twice to go for an electric scoter. This is majorly affected by the shortage of semiconductors and the manufacturing which is not in India yet, hence these issues are affecting the price for the vehicle. But it is a great initiative since India is starting the " Make in India " campaign and these scooters made in India would bring a good change in future. But apart from this if India starts looking after and making a better infrastructure, there will be no better option than Electric scooters and cars as well. Thank you.
